Robinson knocks in six as Lady Bucs crush Liberty 17-5 in softball action

CLARKSBURG – Alli Robinson hit two doubles and a triple and knocked in six runs to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc softball team to a 17-5 victory over the Liberty Mountaineers in a road game Wednesday evening.

This came a day after she broke the school’s home run record against Robert C. Byrd.

The Lady Bucs followed that up with a 17-4 road loss to Morgantown on Thursday.

The split left head coach Levi Bender’s squad with a 12-6 record.

The contest with Liberty was close for three innings.

Liberty actually scored first with a run in the bottom of the first and the score stayed that way until the top of the third when Buckhannon-Upshur scored twice on Robinson’s triple that scored Audrey Gaudet and Alyssa Rohr.

Liberty answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead.

Buckhannon-Upshur took the lead for good in the top of the fourth with a five-run outburst.

With the bases loaded and one out, Rohr singled to left field scoring Olivia Caynor to tie the game at 3-3.

Shelby McDaniels kept the inning going with a two-run double that plated Gaudet and pinch runner Jordan Cutright, Alli Robinson hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Rohr, and Ciara Melton hit a single to center that scored McDaniels to give the Lady Bucs a 7-3 lead.

Gaudet scored on an error, Olivia Caynor scored on a passed ball and Alli Robinson smacked a one-run double in the top of the fifth inning to treat the Lady Bucs to a 10-3 lead.

Liberty scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 10-4 game.

The Lady Bucs then broke the game wide-up with a seven-run sixth inning sending 12 batters to the plate.

Brooklyn Robinson scored the first run of the inning on an error, Kaylie Curry hit a one-run single, Gaudet hit a one-run single, Alli Robinson smashed a two-run double to left, Melton hit a sacrifice fly and Brooklyn Robinson hit a one-run single to account for the scoring.

Liberty’s Emma Kyle hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning but the game still ended after six on the mercy rule.

The Lady Bucs collected 12 hits in the contest with Alli Robinson and Gaudet each getting three apiece.

Melton pitched a complete game to earn the win.

She allowed just three earned runs on nine hits and fanned seven.

Against Morgantown, the game started out well enough the Lady Bucs as they chased across three runs in the top of the first.

Melton hit into a fielder’s choice that allowed Alli Robinson to score, McDaniels raced home on a passed ball and Melton came home on a passed ball as well.

Morgantown scored twice in the bottom of the first to make it a 3-2 contest, but the Lady Bucs made it 4-2 in the top of the third when McDaniels scored on another passed ball.

Morgantown though scored nine in the bottom of the third and six more in the fourth to have the game ended on the mercy rule.

McDaniels led the offense with three hits while Rohr and Alli Robinson each had two.

McDaniels suffered the loss in the circle going 2 2/3 innings.

The Lady Bucs were rained out against Preston on Friday.

They will return to action today when they visit Philip Barbour for a 5 p.m. meeting and then will stay on the road Tuesday when they go to Bridgeport for a 5 p.m. contest.
