Robert Earl “Bob” Martin, 80, of Wardensville, WV died on Sat., March 23, 2019 at the Compass Regional Hospice Center in Centerville, MD.
Bob was born on Dec. 25, 1938 in Arlington, WV, the son of the late Hobart Albert Martin and Florence Louiza Payne Martin. He previously worked for Virginia Department of Transportation, he was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post # 0364 in Woodbridge. Bob loved not only listening to country, bluegrass and southern gospel music, but like to play any instrument with strings. He enjoyed the company of his grandkids and his dogs. Some of Bob’s hobbies were fishing, gardening and enjoying his retirement with his wife Phyllis.
Bob married Phyllis Ann Cockrill Martin on July 27, 1992 in Manassas, VA. Phyllis died on Feb. 16, 2019.
Surviving are three daughters: Cheryl L. Lindsay (Don) of Virginia Beach, VA; Robin E. Carpenter (Timothy) of Orange, VA; Luanne R. Broger (Billy) of Stafford, VA a step-son: Charles Gordon “Gordy” Jones, III (Chris) of Grasonville, MD; a step-daughter: Terri L. Baxter (Rabbit) of Stevensville, MD; his sister-in-law: Donis Martin; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and dear friends: Paul & Jeanie Parker of Wardensville, WV. He was the surviving member of his immediate family.
He is preceded in death by five brothers: Howard, Hobart Jr., Glenn, Ishmeal “Gayle”, and Eugene “Newt” Martin.
A Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Loy-Giffin Funeral home & Crematory in Wardensville WV. Officiating will be Pastor Don Evans. The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery in Wardensville, WV.
