BUCKHANNON — Upshur County Relay for Life organizers have modified Saturday’s event schedule due to an increase in local COVID cases.
“This decision was made with input from Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department, the American Cancer Society and our local Upshur County Relay for Life Committee. We believe that this is the safest decision for all to be able to have a modified event and still honor those fighting cancer and remember those who lost the battle with cancer,” explained Robin Oldaker, Upshur Relay for Life Chair.
The theme for the 2021 Relay for Life event is “Lasso a Cure” and the event will still be held at Jawbone Park on Saturday, Aug. 14. Survivors are invited to register between 8-9 p.m. and at 9 p.m., cancer survivor Tina Eddy will share her story. Donna Foster will be providing music and DJ Brad Allen will emcee the event. A luminaria ceremony will close out the 2021 Relay for Life. Individuals who ordered T-shirts may pick their shirt up at the event.
Those attending are encouraged to socially distance and wear a mask. Please follow the signs that will be displayed at the park to help with social distancing.
Although 2020 and 2021 have been challenging due to the pandemic, new teams and volunteers are always welcome. Those wanting to get involved in Relay for Life can call Robin Oldaker at (304) 940-1577, email [email protected] or contact the Upshur County Relay for Life Facebook page.
