Ralph Edward Cayton


Ralph Edward Cayton, 88, of Jane Lew, WV, went home to Heaven on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

He was born in Morgantown, WV, on August 11, 1930, to the late Theodore and Beatrice Begler Cayton.

On July 10, 1947 a seventeen-year-old Ralph took Barbara Jean Harris to be his lawful wedded wife. Together they raised two daughters and celebrated nearly 57 years of marriage before her passing in 2004.

Ralph spent most of his working years as a heavy equipment operator for companies such as Hope Gas, Grafton Coal and Barbour Coal, but he also
spent some time as member of the Carpenter Union Local 476.


He was a very creative tinkerer and a talented carpenter and wood worker who made beautiful birdhouses and porch swings. Ralph also enjoyed fishing in the West Virginia mountains and quietly working jig-saw puzzles. He was a good Christian man and formerly a member of the Mason Lodge #35 of Good Hope.


Ralph leaves behind his two daughters: Joyce Brown and husband, David, of Ocala, FL, and Beverly Paugh and husband, James, of Jane Lew; five grandchildren: Lee Brown and wife, Roberta, Mike Brown and wife, Laura, Brian Brown and wife, Hidi, Jody Paugh and wife, Teresa, and Trista Ralph Edward Cayton Strader and husband, Dave; eleven great-grandchildren;
nine great-great-grandchildren with one on-the-way; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He has been reunited with is parents; wife; sister, Dorothy Willard; brother, Theodore “Bud” Ellsworth Cayton and two purring cats.


Friends and family gathered at Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. in the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Phillip Strauss officiating. Interment followed at McCann’s Run Cemetery in Jane Lew.
