PreK and K enrollment coming up

BUCKHANNON — Upshur County Schools PreK and Kindergarten enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year will be held on Friday, March 20 at the Buckhannon Event Center (the new armory) from 9-6 p.m. In addition to registering for school, speech, developmental, vision, and hearing screenings will be completed between the hours of 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.  

To enroll in PreK, students must be 4 years old on or before June 30.  To enroll in Kindergarten, students must be 5 years old on or before June 30.  

Families are encouraged to bring their child (between 9 a.m.-3 p.m.), a state issued birth certificate, immunization records, HealthCheck or physical, and verification of a dental exam.  However, families are also encouraged to attend even if they do not have all of the supporting documentation at this time.  Enrollment forms will be available at registration, but can also be found online at or can be obtained at the Board of Education office.  

While Kindergarten students enroll with the elementary school in the district in which they live, PreK students have a wide range of choices for classrooms, including at Buckhannon Academy, Hodgesville, French Creek, Rock Cave, Union and Washington District Elementary Schools, the Child Development Center, Island Nursery, Kids R Kids, Mt. CAP, and several Head Start sites.
