Post 7 falls to Garrett County in regular-season finale, 11-1

GRANTSVILLE (Md.) – Buckhannon Post 7 once again put themselves in a position to not win a game early when they faced off against Garrett County Post 71/214 on the road Friday in their regular-season finale in an 11-1 setback.

The game, which was called after the top of the fifth on the 10-run mercy rule, saw Post 7 make four errors and only one of Garrett County’s 11 runs were earned.

On Friday, Buckhannon Post 7 general manager also announced that their loss 7-6 loss to Braxton County on Thursday was changed to a forfeit win for Buckhannon after Braxton County used a player not on their official roster.

The results left Buckhannon Post 7 with a 5-11 record heading into Monday’s Area V Double Elimination Tournament opener with Braxton County Post 33.

The winner of that game will face Elkins Post 29 today at 7:30 p.m.

Buckhannon will host all Area V Tournament games at William E. Phillips Memorial Field.

In Friday’s game, Garrett County jumped on Buckhannon early with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Buckhannon’s lone run came in the top of third when Josh Nesbitt scored on an error on a ball hit by Zach Calef-Boring.

Garrett County scored twice in their half of third to make it a 6-1 game and wrapped it up with a five-run fourth inning.

Buckhannon managed just two hits in the game, a double by Isaac Lane and a single by Calef-Boring.

Connor Johnson (0-6) started the game and gave up six runs, none earned, on four hits while striking out two.
