Post 7 falls to Garrett after taking early lead, 9-7

Garrett County is the defending Mountain District champions from Maryland.

Post 7 sent 11 batters to the plate in that first inning.

With the bases loaded, Hurst drew a two-out walk to put the visitors on the scoreboard.

Trey Leigh followed with two-run single that scored Zach White and Casey Hamner, and after Wesley Rosencrance singled loading the bases again, Isaac Lane drew another walk scoring Hurst to make it a 4-0 game.

Another bases-loaded walk, this one to Hunter Stone, allowed courtesy runner Cam Tenney to score giving Post 7 a 5-0 lead.

Garrett County answered with two of their own in the bottom of the first, but Buckhannon countered with another run in the top of the second when Hamner doubled home White who reached on an error.

Garrett County matched that run in their half of the second making it a 6-3 contest.

The wheels came off the game for Post 7 in the bottom of the fifth with Garrett County exploding for six runs.

They sent 11 batters to the plate as they took a 9-6 lead.

Buckhannon pushed across a run in the top of the sixth inning when Ryan Smith singled home White to make it 9-7, but they couldn’t get any closer the rest of the way.

Buckhannon out hit Garrett County by a 11-9 margin.

Hamner led the offense with three hits while Leigh collected two.

Buckhannon used four pitchers in the outing with Rosencrance absorbing the loss pitching 1/3 of an inning.

The loss evened Post 7’s record to 1-1 heading into today’s scheduled meeting with Bridgeport Post 68.

They will then rest up for the Hillbilly Hardball Classic which gets underway Thursday.

Buckhannon will be one of the co-hosts for the Classic.

Post 7’s doubleheader with Summersville on Saturday was canceled.

It was the fourth game this season that has been canceled or postponed.
