TENNERTON – The Buckhannon Post 7 Legionaries suffered through a rough two-day stretch here last week.

They traveled to Morgantown on Thursday and dropped an 11-2 decision to Post 2 and then returned home and were upset by Braxton County Post 33 by a 5-2 score in an Area V game Friday evening.

Buckhannon’s lack of offense hurt Post 7 in both losses as they combined for just five hits in the two games.

Buckhannon scored first against Morgantown in the top of the first when Logan Bailey started the game with a single, swiped second and scored on a single by Nick Calef-Boring.

Morgantown scored three times in the bottom of the second and one more in the bottom of the third for a 4-1 lead.

Casey Hamner unloaded on a pitch and took it over the left-center field fence for Post 7 to make it a 4-2 contest.

Post 7 could never get any closer as Morgantown scored three more times in the bottom of the fifth and four more in the bottom of the sixth.

Hamner, Bailey and Calef-Boring had Buckhannon’s three hits.

Taylor Whitehair (0-2) suffered the loss going 4 1/3 innings in the start.

He allowed four earned runs on five hits and fanned one.

Post 7 managed just two hits in the loss to Braxton, a single by Hunter Stone in the first inning and a single by Trey Leigh in the seventh inning.

At one point in the game, Braxton County retired 10 straight Post 7 batters between the third inning and sixth inning.

Braxton County took the lead in the top of the fourth when Trenton Frame hit a one-out double, moved to third on an error and trotted home on a balk.

Braxton County chased across four runs in the top of the fifth as an error led to two of the four runs being unearned.

Buckhannon avoided the shutout in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of runs.

Hamner opened the inning with a walk and went to second on a single by Leigh.

Both runners moved up 90 feet on stolen bases and Hamner scored on a ground out by Elijah Arbogast.

Leigh scored on a wild pitch for the second Post 7 run.

Tim Phillips suffered the loss for Post 7 tossing 4 2/3 innings.

He gave up three earned runs on five hits while striking out five.

Hamner pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings striking out three.

The losses dropped Buckhannon to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in Area V play heading into Sunday’s outing with Bridgeport.

They will return to the diamond Tuesday when they host Weston/Jane Lew Post 4 at 7 p.m.
