MORGANTOWN – It was a huge battle for sectional seeding between the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs and the Morgantown Lady Mohigans here Wednesday night but it was all Morgantown at the final buzzer as the Lady Bucs suffered a 68-29 setback.
The winner of the game will likely secure a home contest during sectional play.
The first quarter was a sloppy affair between both schools as turnovers were more common than points.
Morgantown’s Kaitlyn Ammons scored the first four points of the game, but Brooklyn Maxwell made a lay-up and Shelby McDaniels made two free throws as the Lady Bucs deadlocked the game at 4-4.
The two team traded baskets the rest of the way as Morgantown owned an 8-7 lead after one-quarter of action.
Morgantown scored the first five points of the second quarter for a 13-7 lead but McDaniels took over the game for the next two minutes.
She turned in an old-fashioned three-point play, knocked down two free throws and went inside the paint for her very own 6-0 run to give the Lady Bucs their first and only lead, at 14-13, with 5:17 left in the half.
Morgantown closed the half on a 12-1 run though in the final five minutes of the half to grab a 25-15 advantage at the break.
Leigh Ann Bennett put in a long jumper and Maxwell canned two free throws to make it a 30-19 game, but Morgantown went on a 10-0 run for a 40-19 lead.
Audrey Gaudet ended the run with a free throw and Bennett scored off of a steal to make it a 40-22 contest, but Morgantown went on another run scoring 13 unanswered points to close the quarter and take a 53-22 lead heading into the final eight minutes.
Morgantown pushed their lead to 37, at 59-22, before Gaudet turned in a three-point play after being fouled on her lay-up.

of the game was the final score of 68-29.
McDaniels led the Lady Bucs with 11 points while Maxwell had eight.
Sydni Clawges scored a game-high 19 points for Morgantown.
Morgantown improved to 8-7 on the season.
The Lady Bucs dropped to 9-6 overall.
Buckhannon-Upshur will be back in action tonight when they visit Philip Barbour for a Big 10 battle starting at 7:30 p.m.
