BUCKHANNON — The Buckhannon Police Department is still searching for the driver who fled the scene of Saturday’s wreck with an Upshur County EMS ambulance.
Kyran Brice Larsen, 23, of Weston, was traveling south on WBUC Road and was attempting to cross Route 33 when he pulled into the path of a 2012 ambulance driven by Ray Rosencrance, 61, of Buckhannon, according to the report from the Buckhannon Police Department.
Larsen had successfully crossed the westbound lane of Route 33 and came to a stop in the median but then attempted to cross the eastbound lane when it pulled out in front of the ambulance, according to the report.
Larsen failed to yield the right of way to the ambulance, causing the front of the ambulance to collide with the passenger side of the Impala. He exited the vehicle and fled prior to the arrival of law enforcement, according to the report.
Patrolman First Class Marshall O’Connor is the investigating officer, assisted by Sgt. William Courtney with the BPD and Trooper C.C. Mayle with the Buckhannon detachment of the WVSP.
Larsen had one passenger, Mark Hamrick, 26, of Weston, who was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital by Upshur County EMS with possible injuries.
In the report, Hamrick stated, “We were stopped at the stop sign coming off the Old Weston Road. We crossed and stopped in the intersection. He pulled out; I saw a wall of white and screamed. That’s when we hit. I remember crawling out of the vehicle.”
Hamrick and the owner of the car both identified Larsen as the driver of the vehicle.
BPD chief Matt Gregory said there are warrants for Larsen for driving suspended, leaving the scene of an accident with injury and failure to yield the right of way.
“He had a Weston address so there will be coordination with the Lewis County authorities as well,” Gregory said.
Rosencrance and passenger Sarah Abbott, 45, were also taken by Upshur County EMS to St. Joseph’s with possible injuries.
The Buckhannon Fire Department and Adrian VFD assisted at the scene.
