BUCKHANNON — If you’re looking for something fun to kick-off the Strawberry Festival, come to Jawbone Park and see Pets On Parade next Saturday. The Animal Outreach Project, Inc. will be hosting their annual pet show on May 11 at 11 a.m., with registration beginning at 10 a.m.
All pets are welcome and there will be six classes with the following categories: My Best Friend (for kids 12 and under), Parading Paws (for adults/dog), Good, Bad and Ugly (most unique, for all little critters), Best Dressed (all costume), Talented Pets (all pets – show how smart/trained), and Best of Show (first place winners from all classes). There is a $5 entry fee per class and all animals must be on a leash and/or in complete control of the owner/handler.
Paint Misbehavin’ will be providing face painting and balloon animals for the children. Pet Supplies Plus will also be offering free nail trims during the event. Other sponsors include Buckhannon Animal Clinic, Brake’s Dairy King, Jenkins Ford, Sam’s Pizza and Wendling’s.
AOP Secretary Marcella Garrison stated, “We are hoping to have an adoption event at the pet show with the Mighty Mutts rescue group and possibly others.” Always a fun and entertaining event, Pets On Parade aims to bring awareness to their cause, which is basically to provide assistance to anyone needing help with their pets.
The Animal Outreach Project is a small non-profit organization that was established in 2015. The program strives to help everyone afford their pets by offering spay and neuter assistance, vaccinations, pet supplies and emergency assistance to those in need. AOP assisted with spaying and neutering over 300 animals last year alone. They also provide a pet food and supply bank in Hacker’s Creek.
If you need assistance, please visit their website at aopwv.org and complete an application.
