I mentioned Mother’s Day in last week’s Chat, so I have a few things to add because I started a whole week early. I told you that all three of my siblings have left me in a very short time: My brothers, Sonny (Harry Vernon Wiant, Jr.) and Sammy, (Samuel Woodrow Wiant, II) died within weeks of each other in 2020. That was difficult for both my sister, Mary Ann Bucklew and me. Less than two years later my only sister died on March 19, 2022. I suddenly feel like an orphan. But my own two sons live here in Buckhannon and my daughter lives with me. I also am fortunate to have one grandson living here, too, with his parents, my son, Scott and his wife, Carol. I thank God for that.
I did not tell you that Sammy was named after our Dad’s only brother, Samuel Woodrow Wiant I. At the time Uncle Sam and his lovely wife, Sarah Nell Fisher Wiant (of Sutton) had no children. Uncle Sam always teased Dad about having so many kids so quickly. Soon he had to eat those words because he and Sarah Nell were blessed with four children (two of them a set of beautiful twins). The first was Sandra, then Sharon, finally the twins, Sheila and Shirley.
I have some of my McNemar relatives here in Buckhannon, though I see them seldom. I pray that they and all my other relatives and friends will have a peaceful and happy Mother’s Day.
Our church service on April 23 was presented by the delightful couple who call themselves “A Better Covenant – A Timeless Tour.” Their testimony is heart-touching. If you want to get them to come to your services, go to www.abettercovenaneband.com. You will love them and their music.
On the first Saturday in March, the church invited many to come for the devotional and fun, calling it “Crazy Hair/Hat Night.” Everyone, young and old alike, seemed to have a great deal of fun. We had a short devotional time to start the evening and then they sang, played different board games, musical chairs, Chess and many more. Everyone liked it so much that they are going to try to have some special time on the first Sabbath evening of each month. Tomorrow evening, it will be “Flower Power” and 70s dress-up night. Bring out your fringe vests, peace signs, bell-bottom jeans and other things with the 70s theme. Remember, we will be having something special every first sabbath of the month. Sabbath starts at sundown on Friday and lasts until sundown on Saturday (see; Leviticus 23:32).
Mother’s Day Brunch (lunch) will be held at 9:30 a.m. on May 8. Invite any mothers you know to come to this meal at our church building dining hall. The meal will be prepared and served by the men of the church (who will also clean up afterward). Men, please let Pastor Daniel know if you can make it in an hour before serving time. to help with the cooking for the ladies. Call Pastor Daniel at 1 (770) 880-5502 if you can be there to help or if you have any questions.
