Pat’s Chat "GRACE"

Have you ever heard it said that we are not under the law, but under grace, inferring that we no longer have to pay any attention to the law?  We are under GRACE.  I believe that weakens the true meaning of GRACE.  I think we could say that grace is the power within us (like the Holy Spirit) to help us do God’s will.

Long before the 10 Commandments were written in stone, they were in place.  Genesis 26:5 states that because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws his seed would multiply as the stars of heaven.  All through the Old Testament it talks about being perfect.  This will send many people in orbit if they hear anything about perfection.  Luke 1:6 talks about Zacharias and Elizabeth “walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.”  The word from which blameless was translated is the same word that is also translated “perfect.”   Right through the whole Bible into Revelation 22:14, where it says, “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”

We know we are all sinners and we come to Christ for forgiveness when we know we have sinned (sinning is lawlessness) and He forgives us and promises to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  It is HE that cleanses us.  But should we continue to sin just because we know He will forgive us?  Of course not, but if we have a besetting sin that keeps cropping up, we simply cannot give up, but continue to ask for His forgiveness and help.

When God decided that He would have to cleanse the whole world with a flood, He said it was because He saw that “every imagination of the heart was only evil continually.”  Read Chapter 6 of Genesis.  Then you might want to read Matthew 24, where you will find that the world is again in the same state, and Jesus is going to come soon.  We can be ready for that coming by beholding Jesus (in our reading and thinking and conversation).  We will be changed into whatever we “behold” continually.  Since Hollywood has taken over most of our entertainment, we are beholding crime and violence and immorality and “sinning” continually.  We become like whatever it is that we behold.  Only God can help us be cleansed of our besetments and that will happen only as we refrain from “beholding” the evil that is so easily found, even by our tiniest human beings who learn as toddlers to use a remote or other electronic devices.  People, I beg you to think like a responsible adult and remove these violent and immoral things from ourselves and our little ones.  Read the Bible in a modern language you can understand, watch only clean, uplifting television and movies (completely unlike The Silencing of the Lambs – a horrible movie I just now heard about as I researched this but found that the film won almost every award for best whatever!  How could we have come to this??  What does that say about who is in charge of what comes out from Hollywood as entertainment?  It is certainly not a Holy God!

I have never written any Chat before that comes almost completely from things I have been thinking.  If you do nothing else, read Matthew 24 to review the things that will be happening in this world as a herald of Jesus’ Second Coming.  If you want more information about any of these things, message me and I will do my best to answer you.

Maranatha!
