PRINCETON – Buckhannon-Upshur wrestling head coach Jacob Orr took a partial Buccaneer team to the Pikeview High School Panther Classic this past weekend.

“It was a make-up event for wrestlers who had missed a weigh-in due to illness or injury,” explained Orr. “If one of our wrestlers did not miss a match then they didn’t compete.”

Orr took six Bucs to the event – Aiden Wilson (106 pounds), Austin McCartney (126), Tucker Hurst (132) Nathan Allen (138), Alex Bennett (195) and Todd Cutlip (285).

In the eight-man tournament bracket, McCartney and Hurst both came out of their brackets as champions.

Wilson and Bennett earned runner-up honors while Allen and Cutlip placed third.

As a team, the Bucs finished third overall.

“To finish third with only six wrestlers was remarkable,” remarked Orr. “I am super proud of the guys that competed this weekend. They all went out and wrestled well. Every guy that we took finished third or higher.”

The Bucs’ full team will return to the mat this Saturday in the Brooke Classic.
