Pair of Little Buc relay units set marks at Harry Green Invitational

BRIDGEPORT – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Buccaneers broke two meet records here last Saturday en route to an eighth-place finish in the 22-team Harry Green Invitational that closed out the 2017 track and field season.
The 4 x 200-meter quartet of Sterlin Thropp, Cameron Irvin, Dakota Smith and Damien Claypool triumphed in a record time of 1:43.60, bettering the old mark of 1:45.03 established by Buckhannon’s M. Lofton, J. Walton, C. Luterek and R. Boone in 2012.
The same foursome came in second in the 4 x 100 meters with a record 49.67 seconds, besting the standard of 50.43 established by Miller Junior High in 2006.
The Little Bucs collected 32 points. Their other scoring came on Smith’s runner-up finish in the 200-meter hurdles (29.56), Irvin’s fourth in the 100 meters (12.51) and Thropp’s fifth place in the 400 meters (59.33).
Winfield and Mountaineer (Morgantown) tied for team laurels with 73 points.
