Otha H. “Jiggs” Hite

TENNERTON — Otha H. “Jiggs” Hite, 86, of Buckhannon, the Liggett Addition community, died on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing Care Facility.  He was born in Gilmer County, on March 7, 1932, a son of the late Walker and Sylvia Turner Hite. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter Robin Davis, one brother Walker Hite Jr., and one sister Margie Starr.

He was united in marriage on March 29, 1952, to Maggie “Yvonne” Waggoner Hite who survives.  He is also survived by one daughter Charmaine Hite and husband Stanley Rexroad, of Buckhannon; one granddaughter Erin and husband Geoff Lester, of Los Angeles, Calif.; two grandsons:  Brandon Duke and wife Ashley, of Wilson, N. and Brian Elliott, of N.C.; one great granddaughter Brianna Elliott; three great-grandsons:  Hayes and Mason Lester and Joseph Elliot; four sisters:  Wanda and husband Gary Corder of Akron, Ohio, Barbara Shiley, of Lewisburg, Doris and husband Eddy Long, of Valley Head, and Linda and husband Dick Gould, of Valley Head; one sister-in-law Elsie Hite, of Arkansas; several special nieces and nephews; very dear friends:  Jim and Cathy Vance, Lucy Cutright, Carolyn Tenney, Bob and Sammie Allman, Bob and Betty Heavner, and Cathy Poundstone; and countless others, too numerous to mention.

Jiggs was a retired coal miner and was a former van driver for the Upshur County Senior Center, where he enjoyed a favorite pastime of singing gospel music with the Singing Seniors.   Jiggs was a member of the West Buckhannon United Methodist Church where he had served as a lay speaker and as Sunday School Superintendent.   He and Maggie loved to travel and spend time with family and friends.  One of his friends remarked, “Jiggs was the kindest, most gentle man a friend could ask for.”  He loved the unlovable and never spoke an unkind word of anyone.

The family would like to thank the staff of the St. Joseph Nursing Care Facility and Dr. Brown for their wonderful care.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, from 10-11 a.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Robert F. Heavner officiating.  Interment will follow in the Lorentz Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Upshur County Senior Center at 28 North Kanawha St., Buckhannon, WV  26201.  Online condolences may be extended to the Hite family at www.heavnerandcutright.com  The Hite family entrusted the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel with the funeral arrangements.
