Operation Christmas Child is underway

BUCKHANNON — Several local churches are sharing God’s love with children all over the world through the Operation Christmas Child project. Donations of packed shoeboxes will be accepted at the Buckhannon First Baptist Church, Tallmansville Baptist Church and Wayside Southern Baptist Church until Monday, November 25.

Samaritan’s Purse International Relief offers the following suggestions for packing your shoebox and a list of prohibited items.  Start with a quality “wow” item such as a stuffed animal, soccer ball with pump, or clothing outfit that will capture the child’s attention the instant he or she opens the box. Gift suggestions according to age and gender are listed on the website along with recommendations for other fun toys, hygiene items and school supplies to fill the shoebox.

Please do not include the following items: Candy or gum; used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate or food; seeds; fruit rolls or other fruit snacks; drink mixes (powdered or liquid); toothpaste, liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.
