Oink’s BBQ celebrates one year of business

BUCKHANNON — Upshur County’s local businesses are booming. One in particular, Oink’s BBQ, celebrated one year of business last week.

Taking time to talk to owner Cindi Alkire shows just how ecstatic she is about her restaurant’s progress and accomplishments. Oink’s BBQ is a restaurant in Buckhannon, offering foods like brisket, pulled pork and chicken, as well as their famous sides such as their homemade coleslaw to the community.

Once Alkire, a Lewis County resident, was presented with an opportunity to open a business, she jumped at the chance. The entrepreneur felt Buckhannon radiates a positive environment and welcoming community. “Upshur County is so supportive of small, local businesses and I just love it here. It’s a fantastic town,” noted Alkire.

Like most, Alkire started working in the food industry over a decade ago, starting as a server and advancing into a management position. Although she did not having any previous experience in barbecue, the owner saw the opportunity to provide Buckhannon with the delicious, new food option.

Alkire expressed, “I could not do any of this without my staff; they have been my rock and are just absolutely fantastic!” While she hopes to eventually relocate to Buckhannon and be closer to her business, she continues to reside in Weston for the time being.

Oink’s BBQ is seeking to enhance its dining experience as Alkire is in the process of obtaining a beer license. However, only bottles of domestic beer will be available; beer on tap will not be offered. This will hopefully expand the atmosphere to a different group of customers in hopes to gain more clientele.

To support a great local restaurant, go check out Oink’s BBQ at 18 N Kanawha Street! The restaurant is open from Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offer in-door dining or take out. The food is phenomenal, the staff are wonderful and the customers are friendly. The owners and staff seek to make each customer’s experience as memorable as possible.

Congratulations to Oink’s BBQ and Cindi Alkire on one year of business!
