WEST LIBERTY – Amy Stewart scored her fifth goal of the season as the No. 11 West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat soccer team defeated West Liberty by a 1-0 score today in Mountain East Conference action.
The lone goal of the game came in the 24th minute. Stewart snuck in a goal past West Liberty keeper Lauren Hartnell from inside the six-yard box.
Audrey Barber and Jennafer Alonge were credited with the assists.
The shutout was the 11th of the season for the Lady Bobcats.
West Liberty outshot Wesleyan by a 13-6 margin and owned a 6-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Wesleyan’s Ashlee Schumacher and Chelsea Hubner split time in the net again.
Schumacher played the first half and stopped two shots while Hubner played the second half and made four saves.
Wesleyan owned a 6-4 margin in corner kicks.
West Liberty dropped to 4-7-2 overall and 3-7-2 in the MEC.
Wesleyan improved to 13-0-1 overall and 12-0 in the MEC.
The Lady Bobcats will be back in action at 7 p.m. Wednesday when they host Fairmont State in a Mountain East Conference contest.
