Vet fires no-hitter in first game of twin bill

BUCKHANNON – West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat Hannah Vet twirled a no-hitter in a 7-0 victory over Salem International here Tuesday in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader.
And Sayayka Foley threw a two-hit gem as the 10th-ranked Lady ‘Cats completed the sweep with an 8-0 triumph in game two that ended after five innings on the mercy rule.
Vet walked just one and struck out eight in hurling the team’s first complete-game no-hitter of the season. She upped her record to 15-2.
The Lady Bobcats streaked into a 5-0 lead in the third inning of the opener. Tori Pogue reached on an error, stole second and sprinted home on Sara Scoone’s single. Morgan Bruce drilled a run-scoring single to right field, and Brooklyn Waddell followed with her second homer of the season. Jessica Rodriguez kept it going with a single to right, went to second on Krista Waggoner’s single to center, and crossed on a single to center by Emma Rickels.
They plated their other two markers in the sixth when Pogue singled, Olivia Gore was hit by a pitch, Bruce reached on a bobble to load the bases and Waddell drove the two runs home with a double.
Pogue paced Wesleyan’s 11-hit attack with three raps, with Waddell and Rodriguez belting two apiece.
Foley doled out two singles, didn’t issue a walk, and fanned six in hiking her record to 12-3 in game two.
