Morning fire causes traffic on S. Kanawha to be rerouted

BUCKHANNON — At approximately 10:05 a.m., a call for a structure fire was received by the Upshur County Emergency Communications Center. The notification reported a structure fire, located at 141 South Kanawha Street and multiple crews were dispatched to the scene.

Tanner Smith Career Firefighter First Class and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Buckhannon Fire Department (BFD) confirmed details of the call. Smith noted that both the BFD and Washington District Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

While crews investigated the fire, traffic was rerouted from South Kanawha Street by the Buckhannon City Police Department. Upshur County EMS was also on the scene.

Smith noted, “There was actually no fire but there was smoke present in the building.” The investigation determined the smoke was coming from a vent in the bathroom of the building per Smith. No damage or injuries were reported.
