Morgantown Post 2 beats Berkeley County for West Virginia State Legion title

KEYSER – Morgantown Post 2 won the West Virginia State Legion Tournament on Sunday with a 5-4 victory over Berkeley County Post 14 at Potomac State College.

Morgantown held a 3-0 lead but Berkeley came back to take a 4-3 advantage heading into the final inning.

Berkeley County hit a Morgantown batter with the bases loaded in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4, and after a pitching change, Berkeley County uncorked a wild pitch to give Morgantown the win.

Morgantown started the state tournament with a 4-3 win over Elkins on Wednesday and then beat Wheeling by a 18-8 score on Friday.

They eliminated Wheeling with a 4-1 victory Saturday but dropped the first clash to Berkeley County later that day by a 6-5 score.

Morgantown now heads to Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Asheboro, North Carolina this week, where they will play the Delaware state champ.
