Moon Flower Hemp reaps bountiful harvest

BUCKHANNON — As summer draws to a close and fall starts settling in, local hemp company—Moon Flower Hemp—concludes their third harvest and braces for weeks of post-harvest work.

Located in the hills of Upshur County, the Moon Flower Hemp team planted over 2,500 hemp plants in April. The plants were then transplanted from the greenhouse to the expansive fields weeks later, where they flourished to over 5 feet tall throughout the next five months. When the hemp plant matures in late summer, it flowers and produces buds with high percentages of cannabinoids—known for their countless medical benefits.

Moon Flower grows hemp plants with high amounts of CBD (cannabidiol) and low amounts of Delta-9 THC (tetrahrydrocannabidiol) as the legal limit for Delta-9 THC content is below 0.1%. D9 THC is the cannabinoid grown for what is widely known as “marijuana.”

Now that Moon Flower has harvested their plants, the flower (aka buds) will be hand-trimmed from each stock. Some buds will go towards their smokeable product line, and the rest will undergo C02 extraction, which separates the CBD oil from the plant material. The oil is then used to make the products in their extensive line, including edibles, tinctures, salves, etc.

Moon Flower Hemp is co-owned by Buckhannon-native sisters, Riley Queen (23) and Macie Queen (22) who made their dreams a reality in 2019. Combining their mutual passions for holistic medicine, mental health advocacy, and sustainability, the duo created a company that actively improves the daily lives and health of many. Their team has expanded to 10 people who all play an essential role in their success. Included in their team are their parents, Jason and Jamie Queen, who have helped from the start to make the operation a success. The group also includes their grandmother, Laura Queen, who hand-makes hundreds of gummies and edibles daily. Their chemist, Cayla Collett, crafts the CBD oil product line, such as healing balms and their heal-all tinctures.

The products made from their plants reportedly help alleviate common ailments such as anxiety, joint pain, muscle pain, depression, insomnia, menstrual pain, nausea, appetite loss, and so much more. Although they are planning for a future store front location, all products can be ordered online and shipped for free from their website Moon Flower’s products are also available for purchase at EndoSolutions on Main Street in Buckhannon, so stop by today to try some of their high-quality, locally sourced products!
