Monday wreck sends man by HealthNet

TENNERTON — A single-vehicle accident occurred at 7:54 a.m. Monday morning, sending Delmas Joe Riffle III to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital by HealthNet.  The 22-year-old French Creek man was traveling northbound on Route 20 near Stoney Run Road when he lost control of his 2000 Jeep Cherokee, striking an embankment and utility pole, according to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department.

Riffle’s incident statement said, “I was coming down the road and lost my brakes and didn’t want to hit anyone, so I went off the road and hit the pole.  I was only going about 35 mph.”

Emergency personnel reportedly worked for nearly 45 minutes to extricate Riffle from the Jeep before he was flown by helicopter to the hospital for treatment.  Riffle reportedly sustained injuries to his lower body and extremities.

According to the accident report, Riffle was operating the vehicle while his license was suspended or revoked. The Jeep was towed from the scene by Tennerton Auto.
