Mona Lee Grove Stoneking, of Columbus, Georgia, died on March 2, 2021 at her home under Kindred Hospice Care.
Mona was born on March 20, 1935 in Buckhannon, West Virginia to the late Basil Luther Grove and Hazel Lillian Thayer Grove.
After graduating high school, Mona went on to secretary school. She soon met the love of her life, William Stoneking. She became a military wife traveling the world and finally settled in Columbus, Georgia. Mona was a talented seamstress; she was in the sewing guild at Fairview Baptist Church and also at Britt David Baptist Church. With her sewing talent she and the other ladies would make items for nursing homes, orphanages, and other places that could use some cheer. If Mona wasn’t at the sewing machine creating, you could find her outside gardening. Mona was a loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and especially loved her.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents, Basil and Hazel Grove, her husband, William Stoneking, and two brothers, Weldon Luther Grove and Vernon Larry Grove.
She leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her two daughters: Susan Diane Hall and Crystal Elaine Ward, both of Columbus, GA; son, Kennith William Stoneking of Lawrenceville, GA; six grandchildren: Rebekah Stoneking, Andrew Stoneking, Emily Ward, Laura Ward, T.J. Ward, and Michelle Hall; four great grandchildren with one on the way; and numerous other family members.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, March 8, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A service to celebrate Mona’s life will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
