Mon Health SJMH December Employee of the Month

WESTON — Surgical employee Kayla Peck has been named the December 2021 ICARE Employee of the Month for Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital (SJMH) in Weston.

Kayla began at SJMH in the Surgical Department in February 2020. She is originally from Tazwell, VA, and received training as a vet tech. She and her husband, Michael, moved to this area because of his job in oil and gas. Though she spent most of her career in a veterinarian’s office, she said she enjoyed her transition to surgical care.

Kayla assists the physicians in surgery and finds the work to be very rewarding. Every day is a learning experience for her. She added, “This place is like family to me. I love all of my co-workers and spend more time with them than my own family.”

A nomination for the monthly Employee of the Month honor is based on the ICARE acronym of Integrity, Commitment, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. Kayla’s nominator cited these qualities for her nomination.

Her nominator wrote, “She is always the person to take the high road in any given situation, which I find to be her most admirable trait. Everyone always says treat others the way you want to be treated and that is what Kayla always does, even if she knows she may not get that in return. She is one of the most selfless people I have ever met. Kayla is always someone you can count on when you need someone to stay late or come in when there are difficult cases that require extra hands. Kayla has even gone as far as leaving lunch plans to go in to work on her day off when she is needed. She goes above and beyond to work with all of the OR staff to make sure the day runs smoothly. Kayla is the most pleasant person to work with. I can always count on her to put a smile on my face along with everyone she comes in contact with. She treats every patient with the utmost respect and puts them at instant ease prior to procedures. I often hear fellow employees hoping that Kayla will be scrubbing in their room because she carries an endless amount of positivity no matter how hard the day is.”

Kayla and her husband have two children – Joseph, 14, and Alexis, 12. The family loves camping and boating, spending lots of time at either Summersville or Stonewall Lakes.
