MGA Gymnasts place high at invitational

ELKINS — Mountain Gymnastics Academy competed at the Rock Star Invitational gymnastics meet in Christiansburg, VA on the weekend of January 22 and 23. About 700 gymnasts participated, representing 23 teams.

MGA’s Xcel Gold team earned a team banner by capturing second place overall. McKenzie Phillips, of Philippi, took first place on bars, second place on beam, and second place overall. Brianna Hollen, of Belington, took first place on vault and third place overall. Mady Hurst, of Elkins, came in second place on floor and Kaelyn Kirkpatrick came in second place on bars. 

In the Xcel Silver division L Raschella came in second place on Vault.

Several MGA gymnasts recently “leveled up” and were competing in their new levels for the first time. In JO Level 4 Claire Kniffen, of Beverly, took second place on bars and third place all-around and in JO Level 6 Lily Hayes, of Elkins, came in third place all-around.

MGA will be hosting an invitational gymnastics meet on March 12 and 13 in Elkins. Invitations have been sent to all area gyms, and MGA is accepting applications to participate.
