MEC announces tennis tournament matchups

BRIDGEPORT — The field and matchups for the 2021 Mountain East Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Tournament have been set after the conclusion of regular season play this afternoon.

The tournament will be played at Schoenbaum Courts in Charleston, W.Va. The semifinals will be played on Saturday, with the championship matches being played on Sunday. The Charleston Tennis Club will serve as the indoor venue in the face of inclement weather.

On the men's side, the University of Charleston is the top seed after claiming the regular season title with a perfect 6-0 record. The Golden Eagles will take on fourth-seeded West Liberty in the semifinals.

West Virginia Wesleyan is the No. 2 seed in the tournament, and will face third-seeded Fairmont State. The Bobcats edged the Falcons, 4-3, in the team's matchup earlier this season.

On the women's side, West Virginia State claimed the regular season title with a 6-1 triumph against Charleston over the weekend. The Yellow Jackets will meet Fairmont State in the semifinals.

The Golden Eagles come into the tournament as the No. 2 seed, and will face third-seeded West Liberty in the semis.
