TENNERTON – Buckhannon-Upshur’s Shelby McDaniels threw on a one-hit shutout against the Preston Knights in a 10-0 five-inning victory Tuesday evening.

Preston’s lone hit was a fourth inning single by a Dalaynie Myers.

The Lady Bucs gave McDaniels all the offense she needed with a five-run outburst in the top of the first inning.

The first five Lady Bucs batters all reached in the inning and the big hit belonged to Robin Ball who hit a two-run triple.

Brooklyn Robinson, Hayden Peters and McKinely Bonnett also drove in runs for the Lady Bucs.

B-U made it an 8-0 game in the top of the second with three more runs.

Ball hit a one-run single and later scored on an error and Peters was hit by a pitch and scored on Bonnett’s double.

The Lady Bucs made it 9-0 in the top of the third when Ball drew a one-out walk and later scored on a single by Brooklyn Bryant.

B-U upped their lead to 10-0 in the top of the fourth when Katarah Linger reached on a dropped strike three and scored on Kennedy Samargo’s double.

The game was called after five innings on the mercy rule.

The Lady Bucs had 11 hits with Ball, Robinson, Bonnett and Samargo each getting two.

A day later at home, the Lady Bucs dropped a 5-4 decision to Lewis County.

They were behind by a 5-0 score before chasing across two runs in the bottom of the third inning when Megan Bailey and McDaniels both scored on an error making it a 5-2 game.

B-U closed it to 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a one-run double from Brooklyn Robinson and a one-run single by Peters, but the Lady Bucs were never able to get that game-tying run.

The Lady Bucs had nine hits in the setback with Ball, Samargo and Peters each getting one.

Kimble tossed all seven innings and allowed just one earned run on seven hits while striking out two.

The split left the Lady Bucs with an 8-10 record.

They will close out their regular season today, weather permitting, hosting John Marshall in a doubleheader starting at noon.
