Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Boggs, 69, of Bridgeport passed away unexpectedly on Monday,June 3, 2019 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. She was born in Weston on December 8, 1949, a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Bertie Belle Shallenberger Alfred.
Libby is survived by two children: Teresa Walsh and husband, John Paul, of Oviedo, FL,and her father, Joseph Boggs, and Christopher Gladkosky and fiancé, Kristi, of Clarksburg; one grandchild, Ciaran Walsh; four step children: Michelle Graham, David Gladkosky, James Boggs and William Boggs Jr.; five siblings: Jennifer Lynn Bailey, Alice Leigh Rittenhouse and husband, Charles, Sarah Anne Borchert, Joseph Douglas Alfred, Susan Gail Murray and husband, Stephen; several nieces and nephews and cousins; many close friends; her partner and best friend, James Skinner; his children: Wendy Smith and Eric Skinner; and grandchildren of her heart: Hunter, Haley, Roslyn and Gage. In addition to her parents, Libby was preceded in death by previous husband, James Gladkosky; previous husband,Major William Boggs, and his children: John Andrew and Joseph Boggs; one grandchild, Lillian Walsh; and two brothers: Thomas Steven Alfred and Jonathon Gordon Alfred.
Libby graduated from Lewis County High School and went on to receive a Bachelor Degree in Education from WV Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Boggs She used her degree to teach at Walkersville, Pricetown and developed Head Start programs all over Lewis and Harrison Counties. She also worked with the Community Action program, the Red Cross, the Weston Democrat and the WV Glass Factory.
Libby was also the president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Purple Heart Chapter 498 of Clarksburg. Her hobbies included: sewing, quilting, reading, watching birds and traveling. Libby traveled many different places including Africa, Ireland and much of Europe. Everywhere Libby traveled she made friends because she never knew a stranger.
