TENNERTON — Coming off a dominant 21-0 road win over Washington Irving, the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Buccaneers softball team (1-0) returned to Tennerton Tuesday, March 22 for their 2022 home opener against the East Fairmont Hornets.

Kynnedy Marple was absolutely brilliant on the mound for the Little Lady Bucs, throwing a no-hitter to lead her team to a huge 16-1 win. Marple earned the win for Head Coach Jim Gregory, pitching four innings, allowing only one run on zero total hits, all the while retiring nine Hornet batters over that span. Marple’s steady arm was complimented perfectly by her solid offensive showing, leading the team with two stolen bases.

As a team, the Bucs played a nearly all-around flawless game on both sides of the ball. After getting off to a quick start offensively in the first inning, the Bucs never relinquished control of the lead, cursing to a wire-to-wire win over East Fairmont in rather dominant fashion.

The Little Lady Bucs recorded ten total hits, with Sarah Coffman leading the way with a perfect 4-4 mark when up to bat. The Little Lady Bucs team also proved they were quite skilled as thieves, stealing a total of seven bases.

The Little Lady Bucs softball team has been dominant defensively, only allowing a single run through their two games so far this season. They will seek to keep this positive momentum rolling as they prepare for upcoming games against Taylor County, Elkins and Mountaineer Middle to finish out the month of March.
