BUCKHANNON — Upshur County’s business organization elected new officers at Monday’s meeting.

It was the last official meeting for outgoing president Robbie Skinner who served a two-year term.

“We are a very strong organization,” Skinner said. “We represent over 160 businesses in this community. We are the largest, most influential group in Upshur County and it’s made up of Buckhannon and Upshur County’s most prominent, most intelligent and most successful folks.”

The 2018-2019 board of directors was sworn in at Monday’s meeting: they include Sam Nolte, Linda Wellings, Keith Buchanan, Debra Hupp, Glenn Hawkins, Shawn Tucker, Stan Rexroad, Jane Helmick, James Huber and Tiffany Hurst. They will join the 2017-2018 board of directors of Carrie Wallace, Ron Williams, Rob Hinton, Lisa Wharton, Chad Corley, Lanora Wentz, Bob Skinner, Erika Kolenich, Amberle Jenkins and Rich Clemens.

Also at the meeting, a new executive board was elected, consisting of president Mark Hays, first vice president Kathy McMurray, second vice president Lisa Wharton, treasurer Melodie Stemple, secretary Gina Ball and Skinner as past president.

“I thank you for what you do for this town, what you do for our community and I know Mark is ready to become president,” he said.

“I know that you will continue to support the organization as will I as I step down into a past president’s position.

“I’m looking forward to the years ahead,” he said. “I know that our organization is nowhere near done growing and I know we will continue to make Upshur County the best place in the state to live, work and raise a family.”

Monday’s chamber lunch at the Event Center at Brushy Fork was sponsored by Lowe’s.
