Margel ‘Zick’ Zickefoose, age 98, of Waynesville, OH passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
He was born on May 29, 1923 in Hemlock, WV, a son of Orva and Eunice Zickefoose. He was married to Gleneva (Tomi) Chewning on August 27, 1949.
He is survived by daughters Linda Shepard (Dean) and Nancy Buckingham; son Dennis Zickefoose (Terry); grandchildren Rodney Shepard, Kevin Shepard, Nicki Dravenstott (Wally), Michele Woodley (Dani), Jon Zickefoose and Shelia, Chris Zickefoose (Mandi); great-grandchldren Eric Shepard (Abigail), Sydney, Logan and Summer Dravenstott, Nate Frank, Cash Zickefoose, Harlyn Zickefoose; and great-great-grandchildren Eli, Adam, Maci, Ezra and Liam Shepard. Zick is also survived by his sister Janet Elson; brother-in-law James Chewning (Olive); sister-in-laws Shelia Hodges and Regina Chewning; and several nieces and nephews.
Zick was a loving and devoted husband to Tomi for almost 70 years. He was a caring and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, who was deeply loved and will be missed by all. Zick was a WWII veteran who proudly served his country, including in the Battle of the Bulge. He enjoyed spending time with his family and found great pleasure in gardening, hunting, hiking, reading and maintaining his lawn.
Friends will be received Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Holly J. Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery in Hemlock, WV. The Upshur County Honor Guard will perform Military Honors at the gravesite.
