BUCKHANNON — Logs spilling onto Route 33 Westbound temporarily shut down traffic in that area Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened at 1:50 p.m. when Russell Dale Leichliter, 65, of French Creek, was driving a 1998 Peterbilt truck belonging to Donald J. Leichliter of Leichliter Trucking in Rock Cave. The hitch broke on the second trailer, causing logs to spill onto the Dale F. Riggs Memorial Bridge and damage the guardrail, according to the report from the Buckhannon Police Department. Russell Leichliter said he was coming down the hill before the bridge when the trailer dipped and bounced just before the bridge. The hitch then broke.
“I tried to slow down and pull to the side, but the trailer just started to sway and rolled over,” he said in his statement to investigating officer Lt. Doug Loudin.
No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.
