Local stars shine for Strawberry Idol


BUCKHANNON — There is no better way to witness some of Upshur County’s great vocal talent than to attend the annual Strawberry Idol competition at the Courthouse during the West Virginia Strawberry Festival. Spread out over three events, Strawberry Idol brought loads of music and applause to Main Street on Friday and Saturday. The winners of the first two competitions continued on to compete in the “Finalists” event on Saturday night.

On Friday, the youth winners were: 1st – Rylee Hedrick, 2nd – Rylynn Shelley, and 3rd – Gavin Riffle. Winners of the adult competition were: 1st – Lily Smart, 2nd – Ashley Hoffman, and 3rd – Katie Hinkle.

Saturday afternoon, the youth winners were: 1st – Caroline Hinkle, 2nd – Nick Perrine, and 3rd – Aubrey Daughtery. The adult contest winners on Saturday were: 1st – Cat Satorito, 2nd – Ariel Mallow, and 3rd was a tie between Lindsay Robinson and Tiara Snyder.

These talented individuals returned to the Courthouse Plaza on Saturday evening for the Finalists Competition. The youth finalist winners of the 2021 Strawberry Idol were: 1st – Caroline Hinkle, 2nd – Rylynn Shelley, and 3rd – Nick Perrine. The adult finalist winners of the 2021 Strawberry Idol were: 1st – Cat Satorito, 2nd – Ariel Mallow, and 3rd – Lily Smart.

The 1st place youth winner, Caroline Hinkle played guitar and sang. She won $300 as the overall youth Strawberry Idol.

The 1st place adult winner, Cat Satorito played the ukulele and sang. She won $500 as the overall adult Strawberry Idol.
