FRENCH CREEK — A local Adrian man was arrested on Wednesday, April 27 and is now facing charges of Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance first offense and Driving while License Suspended non-DUI first offense.
The criminal complaint revealed that Upshur County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mike Coffman responded to the French Creek Elementary School at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. The complaint noted that an individual, later identified as Dewey Wad Tiffner, age 35 of Adrian, had driven a 2015 Ford Fiesta from Route 20 to the French Creek Elementary School. The defendant was sweating and acting very nervous and paranoid. The defendant told Chief Deputy Coffman that people did something to his car and asked Chief Deputy Coffman to look at it. The defendant further noted that he had been shot at and that a residence was on fire along Route 20 in Adrian.
According to the court documentation, Chief Deputy Coffman determined that the vehicle was not altered by anyone and there was no fire in Adrian. Tiffner admitted to using methamphetamine and marijuana and said that he had not slept in eight days. Tiffner was placed under arrest and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for a blood test. Tiffner’s privilege to operate a motor vehicle had been suspended by the West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for unpaid citations.
Tiffner is currently incarcerated at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.
