Local girl enjoys private parade

Tiar Heckman and family enjoy a special Christmas-themed birthday parade complete with Santa and friends on Wednesday

BUCKHANNON — Upshur County’s First Responders went all out on Wednesday with a surprise parade to help ensure a special little girl could enjoy her sixth birthday at home a little early this year.

Tiar Heckman is currently battling a rare and aggressive cancer known as adrenocortical carcinoma.  She and her family have been away from home extensively receiving treatments at St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.  Tiar will turn 6 on December 27, but they will soon be traveling back to Tennessee for her fourth round of treatments.  The drive-by parade was organized to give family and friends the opportunity to help her celebrate on her brief visit home.

Tiar stated, “I loved it, and seeing Santa. The grinch was a little scary. Thank you to everyone who came by to see me!”

Every branch of area law enforcement joined the Buckhannon Fire Department and Ellamore VFD with lights and sirens blaring to show their support.  Ellamore VFD even brought Santa Claus, Rudy the Reindeer and The Grinch to help Tiar celebrate her birthday and Christmas.
