Little Lady Bucs unbeaten streak ends at five with setback to Mountaineer


TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs were unable to get their offense going in their varsity match-up with Mountaineer (Morgantown) here last Wednesday night, and wound up tumbling by a 57-38 count.

They had their five-game winning streak halted, falling to 5-1 going into Tuesday night battle with South at Morgantown. They were to be at home with Bridgeport Thursday night.

The Little Lady Bucs trailed by a 16-7 spread in the opening period, with Kenna Maxwell tallying three points and Kendal Currence and Lexi Kelley canning a bucket apiece.

Maxwell had five markers, Cat Neely banged in a goal and Currence had a free throw, but the second canto went to Mountaineer. Buckhannon trailed by a 31-15 count at halftime.

They were outscored by a 16-8 margin in the third stanza, with Currence, Neely, Maxwell and Kelly scoring two points each.

The Little Lady Bucs came alive to take the final quarter, 15-10. Doing the scoring were Kelly with four markers, Maxwell, Neely and Ashley Catlin each with three, and Currence ad HodgeNay Henderson with one apiece.

Maxwell finished with a team-high 13 points, with Kyndal Davis and Neely following with eight and seven, respectively.
