Little Lady Bucs take opener at Trinity, 29-23


MORGANTOWN – Their debut game had a weird ebb and flow about it, but it was still a win for the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs in their opener Thursday night against Trinity.

The Little Lady Bucs defeated Trinity by a 29-23 score behind a massive second quarter scoring 19 points. Their second quarter scoring was more than they combined for the rest of the game of just 10 points, and they were held scoreless in the third quarter.

The Little Lady Bucs found themselves down by an 8-4 score after one quarter of action with Olivia Shipley hitting a basket and Alyssa Abel putting in two free throws.

In the huge second quarter for B-UMS, Abel went off for 12 points while Shipley scored four and Brooklyn Smith tallied three.

The Little Lady Bucs took a 23-12 lead into the break.

Trinity won the third quarter by a 6-0 margin to trim the lead to 23-18 going into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter was an even battle at 6-6 as Abel put in four points and Smith two for the Little Lady Bucs.

Just three Little Lady Bucs managed to get into the scoring column as Abel scored a game-high 18 points while Shipley scored six and Smith tallied five.

Elyse Kisner scored a team-high 12 points to lead Trinity.

The Little Lady Bucs will be back in action today when they host Elkins.
