Little Lady Bucs split games with Robert L. Bland, Elkins


TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs split a pair of games with Robert L. Bland and Elkins two weeks ago in basketball action.

The Little Lady Bucs dropped a close 38-33 decision to Robert L. Bland at home on Jan. 8 but came back two days later on the road and defeated Elkins by a 29-24 score.

Against Robert L. Bland, only three Little Lady Bucs managed to get into the scoring column.

Kenna Maxwell had a game-high 17 points while Hodge’nay Henderson added 13 points and Alyssa Abel three, but they were the only three to score for the Little Lady Bucs.

The Little Lady Bucs took the first quarter by an 8-6 margin with Maxwell scoring four and Abel and Henderson two each.

The Little Lady Bucs were outscored by a 12-6 margin in the second quarter and trailed at the half by a 18-14 margin.

With Henderson scoring four points and Maxwell a trey, the Little Lady Bucs lost the third quarter by an 8-7 margin and trailed heading into the fourth quarter by a 26-21 score.

The fourth quarter was an even battle at 12-12 with Maxwell scoring eight, Henderson three and Able one.

Bo Probst led Robert L. Bland with 10 points.

Against Elkins, the Little Lady Bucs failed to score in the first quarter and fell behind by a 7-0 margin.

They turned the tables on Elkins in the second quarter and blanked them winning the stanza by a 10-0 margin.

Maxwell had seven points in the quarter while Henderson had two and Abel one.

That left the Little Lady Bucs up by a 10-7 score at the half.

The Little Lady Bucs lost the third quarter by a 9-8 margin with Maxwell scoring four points and Abel and Gabby Parke two each.

The Little Lady Bucs still led by a 18-15 score heading into the last quarter.

The won the final quarter by an 11-8 score

Henderson poured in five points, Maxwell three, Callie Lantz two and Kyndal Davis one for the Little Lady Bucs in the final quarter.

Maxwell paced the offense with 14 point while Henderson had seven.

Emerson Haddix has 12 points to lead Elkins.

The split left the Little Lady Bucs with a 7-3 record.

They will return to the court Friday at Preston for a 6 p.m. contest.
