Little Lady Bucs run winning streak to five games with pair of victories

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs ran their varsity winning streak to five games early this week with victories over Suncrest and East Fairmont.

The Little Lady Bucs dealt Suncrest’s homestanding Lady Seals a 49-22 whipping Monday night, and downed East Fairmont’s Lady Hornets Tuesday night in a contest that was called in the third quarter due to an injury to an East Fairmont player with Buckhannon leading by a 26-13 score.

B-U Middle School athletic director  Debbie Shapiro said the game goes down as a Buckhannon victory.

The Little Lady Bucs improved to 7-5 going into the tournament at East Fairmont Thursday and tonight. They will wind up the season Monday night, traveling to Weston to battle Robert L. Bland’s Lady Patriots.

Buckhannon stormed into a 16-5 lead at Suncrest and never looked back. Shelby McDaniels poured in eight points, and Olivia Ellis, Kaitlyn Shannon, Kiara Woods and Lexi Kelley hit a bucket apiece for the first-quarter output.

With Robin Ball banging in three baskets and Addie Morris, Ashley Catlin and Kelley firing in one apiece, the Little Lady Bucs added a 12-1 second stanza to romp into a 22-point halftime lead, at 28-6.

They claimed the third canto by a 11-5 count on Ball’s six markers, three by McDaniels and two by Shannon. They went into the final segment with a 39-11 spread.

McKinley Bonnett tallied four points and Cat Neely and Morgan Wilson had three each, but Suncrest outscored Buckhannon by a 11-10 edge in the final six minutes.

A total of 11 Little Lady Bucs got into the scoring column, with Ball and McDaniels leading the way with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Shannon, Kelley and Bonnett tallied four apiece, Wilson and Neely each had three, and Ellis, Morris, Woods and Catlin added two apiece.

In the abbreviated clash with East Fairmont, Buckhannon scored 12 points in each of the first two quarters and had a bucket in the third canto before the game was called.

McDaniels led the scoring with 12 markers, Ellis canned four, Woods and Kelley hit three each and Ball and Catlin each contributed two.
