Little Lady Bucs fall to Bland but bounce back to beat West Fairmont

WESTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs split a pair of games early last week on the road.

The Little Lady Bucs dropped a 49-22 decision to Robert L. Bland at Lewis County High School last Monday but rebounded to double up West Fairmont last Wednesday by a 48-24 score.

The action left head coach Steve Collett’s crew with a 2-3 record heading into their game this past Monday at East Fairmont.

They were scheduled to play Elkins on Wednesday and will host Robert L. Bland today.

In Monday’s game with Robert L. Bland, the Little Lady Bucs managed just two points in the first half, two free throws from Alyssa Abel and trailed at the break by a 22-2 score.

B-UMS finally got the offense going in the third quarter with 13 points with Brooklyn Smith going off for seven and Shaylee Hebb, Avi Travise and Abel each scoring two.

The fourth quarter saw Abel score five points and Hebb two for B-UMS.

Abel led the Little Lady Bucs in scoring with nine points while Smith had seven.

Bryn Hurst and Ella Pickney led Robert L. Bland with 14 points apiece.

The Little Lady Bucs were able to reverse their fortunes on Wednesday doubling up West Fairmont by an 8-4 score in the first quarter as Abel scored all eight points.

B-UMS added to their lead in the second quarter winning it by a 13-9 margin and led at the half by a 22-13 score.

Abel had seven points in that second quarter while Olivia Shipley added three free throws, Travise put in a bucket and Smith knocked down a free throw.

With Abel scoring 11 points, Shipley contributing four and Smith and Hebb two each, the Little Lady Bucs won the third quarter by a 19-4 margin and led going into the fourth quarter by a 40-17 score.

The final quarter went to the Little Lady Bucs by an 8-7 count with Abel scoring four points and Shipley and Kylie Hull each adding two.

Abel scored a game-high 30 points for the Little Lady Bucs in the win.
