Little Lady Bucs fall in a pair of home games to Elkins, Taylor County


TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs dropped a pair of home games last week.

They dropped a 29-17 decision to Elkins last Tuesday and then fell in a close game to Taylor County by a 41-33 score.

In the loss to Elkins, it was a scoreless second quarter that did in the Little Lady Bucs.

B-UMS raced out to a 9-6 lead after one-quarter of action with Alyssa Abel scoring six points, Avi Travise two and Shaylee Hebb one.

Elkins put in five points in the Little Lady Bucs scoreless second quarter taking an 11-9 lead at the break.

Olivia Shipley and Brooklyn Smith each dropped in a basket for the Little Lady Bucs and Abel added two free throws, but Elkins took the quarter by a 10-6 score and led by a 21-15 score heading into the fourth quarter.

Two free throws by Abel was all the scoring the Little Lady Bucs could muster in the final quarter which went to Elkins by an 8-2 score.

Abel led the Little Lady Bucs with 10 points.

Addie Cogar paced Elkins with nine points.

Against Taylor County, the Little Lady Bucs lost the first quarter by an 11-4 margin and were in catch-up mode the rest of the contest.

Travise and Shipley had the lone baskets for the Little Lady Bucs in the first quarter.

The Little Lady Bucs picked up the offense in the second quarter winning it 12-8 with Abel and Kylie Hull tallying four points while Travise and Shipley each put in two.

They still trailed at the half by a 19-16 margin.

With Abel putting in five points and Brooklyn Smith and Travise each popping in a three, the Little Lady Bucs were edged in the third quarter by a 13-11 margin and trailed heading into the final quarter by a 32-27 score.

The Little Lady Bucs managed just six points in the final quarter, dropping it by a 9-6 score with Smith, Abel and Makenzie Egress each getting a basket.

Abel led the Little Lady Bucs with 11 points while Travise had seven.

Hadley Horne had 15 points to pace Taylor County.

The Little Lady Bucs  (1-2) were slated to play Robert L. Bland on the road Monday evening.

They will return to the court Wednesday at West Fairmont.
