Little Lady Bucs fall at Mountaineer

MORGANTOWN – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs played Mountaineer even at 12-12 in the opening period here last Wednesday night, but cooled off and wound up losing a 57-37 varsity verdict.

McKinley Bonnett tallied three points, Robin Ball, Kaitlyn Shannon, Kiara Woods and Lexi Kelley had two each and Shelby McDaniels tacked on a charity throw for Buckhannon’s first-quarter scoring.

Bonnet canned four points, McDaniels had three, and Ball and Olivia Ellis two apiece, but the Little Lady Bucs were outscored by a 16-11 margin in the second canto, leaving them down by five, at 28-23, at the half.

The third stanza belonged to Mountaineer by a 16-5 spread, with Ball getting three points and McDaniels two for the Little Lady Bucs. They trailed by a 44-28 count heading into the final segment.

McDaniels scored three markers and Addie Morris, Alyssa Rohr and Kelley had two each, but Mountaineer claimed the fourth quarter, 13-9.

McDaniels led Buckhannon with nine points, with Ball and Bonnett following with seven apiece. Kelley added four, and Ellis, Morris, Rohr, Shannon and Woods contributing two each.

The Little Lady Bucs fell to 2-5. They will go on the road to battle South Tuesday and will entertain Washington Irving Thursday night.
