Little Lady Buc softball team falls to W-I and South Harrison


LOST CREEK – Tough times continued for the young Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Buc softball squad last week.

They fell to homestanding Washington Irving by a 11-1 count last Monday evening, and dropped a 10-9 squeaker to South Harrison here last Tuesday.

The losses left the Little Lady Bucs with a record of 0-4 going into Friday’s road contest with Elkins.

They face a busy week with four more road games. They were slated to visit Barrackville Monday and Robert L. Bland Tuesday. The will face  Lincoln today and Tucker Valley Friday.

The Little Lady Bucs tallied their lone run against Washington Irving in the second inning when Alexis Cannady rapped a lead-off single, stole second, moved to third on an error, and then swiped home.

WI scored two in the first frame and exploded for nine in the third to close out the game on the mercy rule.

Jansen Kimble suffered the loss. She surrendered eight hits, walked four, hit two batters, and fanned three.

The Little Lady Bucs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the opening inning against South Harrison. Alexis Abel walked, Tori Perkins singled, Kimble walked to load the sacks, and Kendall Bohnsack blasted a grand-slam homer. Nevaeh Jones was hit by a pitch, and moved around on a passed ball and two errors for the fifth marker.

But South Harrison answered with a seven-run burst in the bottom of the first, and made it 8-5 with a solo marker in the second.

Buckhannon tied it up with three in the fourth canto. Kimble and Cannady drew back-to-back walks, Bohnsack singled, and Jones banged a two-run double. Bohnsack crossed on an error.

South Harrison upped the count to 10-8 in the fifth, and Buckhannon finished the scoring with a solo marker in the sixth on a walk, a hit batter and Katarah Linger’s single.

Linger started in the circle and worked three innings, allowing three hits and eight runs, walking five and striking out two. Kimble took the loss, giving up two hits and two runs, walking one, hitting three batters and whiffing three.
