Little Lady Buc JV team bests Suncrest, edged by East

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs romped to a 40-17 victory over the homestanding Suncrest Lady Seals Monday night, but dropped a heartbreaking 43-41 overtime decision to East Fairmont’s Lady Hornets here Tuesday night in junior varsity action.

The Little Lady Bucs jumped out to a 13-2 first-quarter spread in the clash at Suncrest on Kenna Maxwell’s 11-point spree and Kendal Currence’s bucket.

Callie Lantz tallied five markers and Kyndal Davis added a basket, but the Lady Seals claimed an 8-7 advantage in the second period.

With Maxell pouring in six points, Davis canning four, and Currence and Gabriella Parke tacking on two apiece the Buckhannon girls put the game on ice with a 14-2 third stanza to up their lead to 22, at 34-12, heading into the final six minutes.

Buckhannon took the fourth canto by a 6-5 edge, with Callie Lantz, Ava Hollen and Rosie Shackleford hitting a goal apiece.

Maxwell finished with 17 points.  Rounding out the scoring were Callie Lantz with seven points, Davis with six, Currence with four and Hollen, Parke and Shackleford each wih two.

Coach Tiffany Board’s Little Lady Bucs trailed by a 10-7 count aftr one period in the thriller with East Fairmont. Doing their scoring were Maxwell with three markers and Lantz and Hodgenay Henderson with two each.

Maxwell tallied six points, and Currence and Callie Lantz each added two, but the Lady Hornets owned a 15-10 advantage in the second quarter to put the Little Lady Bucs behind by eight, at 25-17, at the half.

The Little Lady Bucs rallied to take the third canto by a 11-5 count, with Maxwell canning nine points and Davis contributing a basket. They shaved the deficit to two, at 30-28, going into the fourth stanza.

They forced the contest to go to overtime with a 9-7 fourth segment on Maxwell’s four points, two each by Currence and Callie Lantz and Henderson’s free throw.

Maxwell had three markers and Callie Lantz a foul shot, but East Fairmont took the extra period, 6-4.

Maxwell poured in 22 points, with Callie Lantz hitting seven, Davis adding five, Currence tallying four and Henderson contributing  three.

The Buckhannon girls saw their record go to 7-5 going into the tournament at East Fairmont Thursday and today. They will close out the season on the road Monday with Robert L. Bland’s Lady Patriots.
