Little Bucs split games with West Fairmont and Taylor County


GRAFTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Bucs spilt a pair of road games with West Fairmont and Taylor County.

They dropped a 66-33 contest to West Fairmont back on March 10 but recovered to win a 23-17 contest over Taylor County the next day.

The split left the Little Bucs with a 1-3 record.

It was close for a quarter for the Little Bucs when they battled West Fairmont as they trailed by just one, at 9-8.

Carter Zuliani led the charge with six points while Jonas Barton put in two.

The game got away from the Little Bucs in the second quarter as they managed just four points, two from Darren Daugherty and two from Jevon Westfall.

The Little Bucs trailed at the break by a 30-12 score.

B-UMS managed eight points in the third quarter getting four from Daugherty, two from Zuliani and one each from Barton and Brody McDaniels.

That left them down 53-30 going into the final quarter.

The Little Bucs tied West Fairmont in the fourth quarter with 13 points, with Braeson Gerwig, Cooper Antolini, Christian Dowell getting three apiece and Jerin Westfall and Barton getting two each.

Zuliani led the Little Bucs with eight points while West Fairmont was paced by Julz Butler with 23 points.

The B-UMS-Taylor County game was a low-scoring affair.

The Little Bucs darted out to an 11-2 lead after one quarter with Barton putting in five points, Jerin Westfall hitting a three-pointer, McDaniels knocking down two free throws and Zuliani adding one free throw.

The second quarter was an even battle at 4-4 with Zuliani putting in all four points.

That kept the Little Bucs up by a 15-6 score at the break.

Barton and Zuliani each had a basket for the Little Bucs in the third quarter, that went to Taylor County by a 7-4 score.

B-UMS led heading into the last quarter by a 19-13 score.

The fourth quarter ended in a 4-4 deadlock as Zuliani and Barton each had a basket.

Zuliani and Barton each had nine points to lead the Little Bucs in scoring.
