Little Bucs post wins over RLB


TENNERTON – Three players scored in double figures to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Buccaneers to a 59-32 victory over Robert L. Bland’s Patriots here last Tuesday night in a varsity clash.

Mason Hyre led the way with 14 points, with Harrison Walker canning 13 and Sterlin Thropp tallying 10.

The Little Bucs jumped into a 11-7 first-quarter lead on Landon Hitt’s three-point bomb and regular buckets by Hyre, Walker, Kaiden Ball and Cameron Ervin.

Hyre fired in five markers, Walker banged in four, and Oliver King and Ball tacked on two apiece, but the Patriots claimed the second period by a 15-13 count, leaving Buckhannon with a 24-22 halftime advantage.

The Little Bucs exploded on a 25-4 run in the third stanza, with Thropp blasting in all 10 of his points, Hyre hitting seven, Ball adding four, Hitt drilling in a 3-pointer and Ervin chipping in with a foul shot.

They wrapped it up with a 10-6 final segment on Harrison’s seven markers, Mark Hurst’s bucket and Ervin’s charity throw.

The Little Bucs will go on the road Tuesday to battle West Fairmont’s Polar Bear Cubs. They were to have played host to Elkins on Thursday.

TENNERTON – Mark Hurst and Shawn Blandino combined for 31 points here last Tuesday night to carry the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Buccaneers to a 66-14 junior varsity triumph over Robert L. Bland’s Patriots.

Hurst led the romp with 16 markers, with Blandino following with 15.

The Little Bucs stormed into a 23-2 first-quarter lead, with Hurst and Blandino pouring in six points apiece, Chase Spencer tallying five, Zach Calef-Boring canning four and Ian Donnen adding two.

With Hurst hitting six more, Blandino banging in four, and Luke Yardley sinking three, Buckhannon took the second canto by a 13-4 spread to extend the lead to 36-6 at the half.

The Little Bucs blanked the Patriots by a 15-0 count in the third period on five markers by Blandino, four by Hurst and Ian Strader and two by Calef-Boring.

They finished with a 15-8 scoring edge in the fourth stanza, with Yardley getting five points, Donnen tossing in four, and Jaden Westfall, Bryson Johnston and Keyton Lanier adding two each.

The Little Bucs improved to 4-6. They will be on the road Tuesday to take on West Fairmont’s Polar Bear Cubs. They were to have hosted Elkins on Thursday.
