Little Buc offense can’t get on track in setback at Washington Irving


CLARKSBURG – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Buccaneers had trouble finding their offense here Jan. 18 and ended up dropping a 57-27 decision to Washington Irving’s Hilltoppers in varsity action.

The Little Bucs got a 3-point bucket from Landon Hitt and regular goals from Sterlin Thropp and Mason Hyre, but trailed by a 113-7 count after one period.

They were outscored by an 18-6 spread in the second canto, with Thropp and Harrison Walker hitting a basket apiece and Hitt sinking a pair of free throws for their scoring. They were down by 18, at 31-13, a t the half.

The third period went to WI by a 17-7 margin, with Thropp, Kaiden Ball and Cameron Ervin canning a bucket apiece and Hitt adding a charity throw.

Walker bombed in a trey and a deuce and Hitt banged in a two, but WI claimed the final stanza, 9-7.

The Little Bucs saw their record fall to 2-7. They will go on the road Tuesday to battle West Fairmont’s Polar Bear Cubs. They hosted Robert L. Bland’s Patriots on Tuesday and remained home Thursday night to face the Elkins Green Hornet.
