CLARKSBURG – Zach Calef-Boring fired in 16 points and Mark Hurst canned 12 here Jan. 18 to carry the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Buccaneers to a 40-24 victory over Washington Irving’s Hilltoppers in a junior varsity contest.
The Little Bucs received only a bucket apiece from Calef-Boring and Shawn Blandino and trailed by a 5-4 edge in the opening quarter.
With Ian Donnen going on a three-goal spree, Calef-Boring banging in three markers and Blandino adding a basket, the Buckhannon boys claimed
Calef-Boring drilled in three buckets and Hurst lofted in a 3-pointer and tacked on a charity throw to give the third stanza to the Little Bucs by a 10-9 edge.
They closed out with a 15-6 fourth quarter, with Hurst exploding for nine points, Calef-Boring hitting five and Blandino adding two.
Following Calef-Boring and Hurst in the scoring column were Blandino and Donnen with six markers apiece.
The Little Bucs improved to 3-6. They entertained Robert L. Bland Tuesday and stayed home on Thursday night to face Elkins.
